Description:

Southern Africa, Mozambique, Tsonga peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A simple and utilitarian headrest comprised of a bifurcated base, a pair of support columns, and a rectangular resting platform with a slightly-rounded profile. The platform to rest one's head upon is relatively flat, which differs slightly from the curved platforms of their neighbors, the Shona people. Covered in layers of lustrous caramel and espresso-hued patina, this is a fabulous example! Size: 8.5" W x 5.5" H (21.6 cm x 14 cm).
