Description:

Africa, Tanzania, Makonde peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. The figure stands on thick, block-like legs; the arms are held to the sides by the cloth. The body has breasts and a swollen, presumably pregnant stomach. Her head and face are large relative to her body, with a carved coiffure of incised, straight hair above large eyes, a narrow nose, and pouting lips. Size: 3.35" W x 9.25" H (8.5 cm x 23.5 cm); 9.5" H (24.1 cm) on included custom stand.
