Description:

Western Africa, Mali, Dogon peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A free-standing head of a female, hand-carved from a dark-brown wood. A tubular neck traces upwards to an ovoid head displaying coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a prominent nose with flared nostrils, pouty lips, and an arching forehead. Two pairs of lateral bangs flank either side of each cupped ear, and a scalloped crest of hair cascades down the back of her head. Though only a fragment of a larger ancestral figure, this is a fine example of skilled craftsmanship in Western Africa! Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 7.875" H (20 cm); 9.25" H (23.5 cm) on included custom stand.
