West Africa, Mali, Bamana peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A lovely flute, hand-carved from hard wood, with a rectangular body and a tapering, conical handle with a small perforated suspension hole. The top of the body is slanted with a central blowing hole, and a small perforation on each side enables the flute player to adjust the tone of the produced sound. The instrument is covered in a lustrous dark-brown patina, and is still playable. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1.725" W x 5" H (4.4 cm x 12.7 cm); 6.125" H (15.6 cm) on included custom stand.
