Native American, Southwestern United States, Acoma Pueblo, ca. second quarter of the 20th century CE. A beautiful, hand-built pottery jar of classic form with a concave foot, a broad, apple-shaped body, a sloped shoulder, and a thick rim surrounding the deep basin. Decorating the highly burnished, white-ground exterior are intricately billowing bands of crimson pigment surrounded by bulging black bands, topped with abstract black leaves with petite red spots, and above a solid band of red pigment. The rim is surrounded in black rings, and the vessel interior shows its original buffware color. Size: 12.4" Diameter x 9.125" H (31.5 cm x 23.2 cm)
