Description:

North America, Mexico, late Spanish Colonial to early Mexican Republic period, ca. first half of the 19th century CE. A fine bowie knife with a forged-steel blade bearing a thick spine, a sharpened edge, and a curved edge along the clip point. An S-shaped steel hand guard features quillons that curl outwards in opposite directions as well as a brass spacer cap above. The blade tang is covered with a hand-carved bull horn hilt depicting the head of a loyal canine with a stern visage, drooping jowls, and shaggy ears. Lovely patina envelops both the blade and handle. Size: 3.875" W x 18.25" H (9.8 cm x 46.4 cm); (length of blade): 12.625" L (32.1 cm)
