**Originally Listed At $1500**

North America, Mexico, First Mexican Empire, ca. 1821 to 1823 CE. A fabulous example of a saber from the First Mexican Empire with an ornate handle and a lengthy blade. The cast-brass handle has an openwork hand guard, a protruding thumb rest, and an intricate pommel in the shape of an eagle head. The handle grip is lined with leather and wrapped with thin, twisting wire, and beneath the guard is an image of a crowned eagle with a snake in its beak. The hammered iron blade has a sharpened edge, a deep fuller, a thick spine, and a pointed tip. Both the handle and blade have developed attractive patina. Size (sword): 4.75" W x 37.125" H (12.1 cm x 94.3 cm); (length of blade): 32.25" L (81.9 cm).
