Northwestern Europe, England, London, ca. early to mid-19th century CE. A beautiful pair of antique flutes made from wood, elephant ivory, and brass. The first is a 6-note Aster & Horwood boxwood flute. The barrel rings and end caps are made from ivory and a single brass key. Each segment is marked Astor Horwood with the unicorn emblem, and the full mark ASTOR / & / HORWOOD / 79 CORNHILL / LONDON / (unicorn head) / PATENT on one barrel. The other flue is unmarked but with a similar construction; a brass key and 6-notes. The segments are a lustrous dark and honey brown wood with ivory barrel rings and end caps. Size (Aster flute): 24.125" L x 1.125" W (61.3 cm x 2.9 cm); (unmarked flute): 23.5" L x 1.125" W (59.7 cm x 2.9 cm)
This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.

- Condition: Aster flute: chip to ivory ring cap and stable fissures on end cap. Loss and stable fissure to barrel ring between head joint and middle joint. Stable fissure in wood on head joint segment. Each segment is marked, with some minor fading to stamps. Unmarked flute has a fissure and loss to ivory end cap. Abrasion and chip to wood near brass key. Both disassemble but are stiff. Both have not been tested for playing functionality.
