Description:

East Asia, China, ca. early 19th century CE. A very large ancestral group portrait finely painted on handmade paper. In the foreground of the composition are eight female figures, dressed in red robes and bedecked with ornate golden headdresses inlaid with red and blue jewels and dripping with pearls as well as gold hoop earrings, standing in a semi-circle. Peacock-patterned brocade details may reference a family symbol. Behind these ladies are six male figures wearing lavish blue and green robes and black hats with red peaks and gold tips. The background features a finely painted mountainous landscape dotted with trees. A very strong example, set behind glass and in a lovely wooden frame with an antique brass handle atop. Size: 47.375" L x 34" W (120.3 cm x 86.4 cm); 50.125" L x 37.125" W (127.3 cm x 94.3 cm) framed
