Description:

Southeast Asia, Burma (Myanmar), Hill Tribes, Chin culture, ca. early 20th century CE. An interesting iron bladed dha knife with antler handle, housed in a brass sheath with decorative filigree wirework. A red cotton cord is wrapped around the sheath for attaching to a belt. The knife has a sharp and slightly curved single edged blade, the handle made from a brass guard and a muntjac antler with some attached hair is mounted as the handle - the natural curve of the antler is surprisingly pleasing to hold and forms the perfect grip! Dha knives are a traditional southeast Asian weapon for martial arts, occasional warfare, and the more ornate ones, such as this beautiful example, act as status symbols. Size in sheath: 15" L x 1.5" W (38.1 cm x 3.8 cm); blade only: 7.25" L x 0.75" W (18.4 cm x 1.9 cm)
