Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Nicoya Peninsula, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A very humorous pottery animal head, perhaps a coati-mundi or coyote, painted in shades of red and black over buff slip. This smiling beast once adorned a large vessel and had at least one other cousin, and as many as three, attached along with it. Custom stand. Size: 4.75" W x 2.75" H (12.1 cm x 7 cm)
