Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central Coast, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A lovely bichrome pottery llama effigy vessel, the form comprised of a large llama with a plump body and a relatively petite head with perky ears and applied round eyes adorned with painted black over buff decoration, its body boasting nice stylized, geometric motifs. Upon its back a cup-shaped form with twin lug handles is attached, also decorated with painted black geometrics, this time a zigzag pattern, on buff ground. A very nice example.
