Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italy, Apulian, ca. 350 to 320 BCE. A fine red-figure skyphos with added/fugitive white and yellow paint decorated on each side with an elegant Lady of Fashion donning a radiate stephane, sakkos, beaded necklace, and drop earrings - a palmette and tendrils below each delicate loop handle, striations just above the foot, concentric rings under the foot, and a band of sinuous wave motifs under the rim. Interestingly, you can see the fingerprints of the painter of this piece on the inside rim in two locations. This adds such a strong connection to the past and literally brings life to this piece. Size: 6.375" W x 3.875" H (16.2 cm x 9.8 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Howard T. Knapp collection, acquired in the 1960s - 1980s
