Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, Daunian culture, ca. 300 BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery olpe of a spherical form with a planar base, sloping shoulders, a flared rim surrounding a deep interior cavity, and an applied strap handle joining rim to midsection. The cream-slipped vessel boasts applied bands of black and red stripes around the body, base, rim, and handle, with a register of small frets surrounding the mouth, and intricate linear and geometric motifs on the handle. Size: 5.5" W x 4.7" H (14 cm x 11.9 cm).
