Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Dan Friedlander (American, 1945-2012). Ceramic sculpture on wood box base, n.d. Breathtakingly beautiful, this hand-built sculpture depicts clusters of blossoms that when viewed together create one of Dan Friedlander's "textured titillating timescapes". According to Friedlander's obituary, "He referred to his art as the unity of his conscious and subconscious and he attempted to explore the boundaries between ourselves, our dreams and nature. Dan built thousands of sculptural tiles, each hand textured, each unique and each fired in a solar oven. Dan's creations could lift your spirit and your soul." Size: 8" L x 7.5" W x 7.25" H (20.3 cm x 19 cm x 18.4 cm)

Artist Statement: "For me, creation is the currency of life. I take clay and transform it into living forms. Each form is a unity of my conscious and unconscious. Each form is a unique, organic expression of life's possibilities. To maintain unity I use only my fingers to sculpt each form. To maintain unity with nature I use a solar oven to convert the fluid clay to a solid expression." (Dan Friedlander website)
