Near East, Cyprus, found in the Holy Land, Early Bronze Age I, ca. 2500 to 1900 BCE. A pleasing Red Polished Ware jug featuring a flared spout, a tall narrow neck, a tubular arched handle, and a globular body, all sitting upon a rounded base. Boasting a polished red surface, the lovely vessel is adorned with incised linear and geometric motifs. Red Polished Ware refers to a type of pottery from the Cypriot Bronze Age. These ceramics were crafted by hand and featured a single color, typically red or reddish-brown. The surfaces were coated with a slip and burnished to achieve a medium to high gloss. The pottery included a variety of forms, ranging from intricate ritual vessels to zoomorphic designs. Common decorative elements included incised patterns, raised motifs, and mottled finishes.     Condition:
  • Repaired with restoration over some break lines and others visible. Rounded base inhibits ability to stand independent of support. Some small chips, nicks, and abrasions, all commensurate with age. Nice remaining decoration and rich earthen deposits on interior.
