Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Iron Age, Cypro-Archaic Phase, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A hand-built pottery jug with a rounded base, a wide ovoid body, a tapered cylindrical neck, a flared rim, and a slender handle arching between neck and shoulder. The cream-slipped vessel is decorated with black pigment on the neck with concentric rings as well as intricate target-form motifs. A fine example from ancient Cyprus!   • Condition: Repair to midsection of handle, with resurfacing and light overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to rim, body, and handle, with light fading to original pigmentation, and nice encrustations. Light earthen deposits and great traces of original pigment throughout. The word "Cyprus" is written in graphite beneath base.
