Description:

Ancient Cyprus, Archaic Period, 8th to 6th century BCE. Cypriot sculptures like this are getting more difficult to find and are very desirable! A sensitively carved limestone head of a male, wearing a pointed cap, his face beardless and in typical almost triangular form, his large eyes almond shaped with an arched browline above, a prominent naturalistic nose, closed and subtly smiling lips, with nicely delineated facial contours, and the back of his head flat suggesting it was set into a niche. Size: 5.625" H (14.3 cm); 7.375" H (18.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA acquired before 2000
