Description:

Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Cyprus, late Cypriot I, ca. 1600 to 1250 BCE. A fine example of a wheel-thrown blackware pottery bilbil juglet of a tall form with a flared foot, an apple-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, a tapered cylindrical neck, a funnel-form rim, and a slender handle that arches from neck to shoulder. A raised double line traces down the front of the body, and another encircles the middle of the neck. Ceramic items manufactured in Cyprus like this example were exported in huge numbers to the Holy Land and would have contained a plethora of different oils, perfumes, or other valuable liquids.
