Description:

Ancient Near East, Cyprus, late Cypriot I, ca. 1600 to 1050 BCE. A tall and delicate blackware "bilbil" juglet with a concave base, a bulbous, apple-shaped body, a cylindrical neck, a flared rim, and an arching strap handle. A molded double line wraps around the neck where it meets the handle, and a pair of molded curvilinear bands accentuate the rotundity of the body. Ceramic items manufactured in Cyprus were exported in huge numbers to the Holy Land, and it is in the Holy Land that this piece was likely utilized. Size: 5" W x 10.8" H (12.7 cm x 27.4 cm).
