Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A charming low, round pottery jar with twin handles that terminate in the form of dogs' heads leaning against the mouth. Painted bands of red and creamy white loop around the body of the jar, handles, neck, and spout; the white is painted over with thin black lines and circles. The dogs' faces are expressive and distinctive, with open mouths and perky ears. Size: 5.6" W x 3.55" H (14.2 cm x 9 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Harvey Collection, acquired prior to 1972
