Pre-Columbian, Peru (North Coast), Moche Culture, ca. 100 to 700 CE. A collection of three pearlescent shells, each mirroring the other's design shape; these are placed into square silver fittings and strung from a braided brown leather cord. These pieces of shell were probably originally carved to be deployed as jewelry or clothing appliques, so they are continuing in their intended function! Size with clasp hooked: 10.75" L (27.3 cm)
