Ancient Rome, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A rare carved bone tool, once used by an ancient Roman surgeon, with finely incised details, the upper end wrapped in bronze wire, and suspended from a modern brown leather cord via decorative links. While the tool is rather rudimentary, Rome was remarkably advanced in its medical research and development of surgical instruments. The piece also includes a signature dangler from the Muzeion Gallery of Dallas, Texas. Wearable and quite unique!
