Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste, Nicoya Region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. This piece demonstrates the creativity of the ancient Central Americans quite well. The form is a finely, hand built, round tripod vessel with head, wings, and tail appliques of a turkey. A magnificent program of abstract geometric designs adorn the turkey vessel's body further enhancing the aesthetic qualities of this form. Beyond its handsome appearance, the fact that it is a turkey effigy vessel adds to its appeal as wild turkeys were the most revered bird of the ancient Americas. The piece also shows wonderful root markings and manganese deposits including some lovely dendrite blooms on the interior. 7 1/2"D x 6 1/2" across x 4 3/4"T
