Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 1 to 500 CE.  Fine green stone mace head carved into the form of a jaguar.  Large central hole for insertion of wooden shaft, with drilled eyes and string cut facial features.  Unlike most mace heads from this region, it retains most of the caliche on the surface and has not been over-polished.   Size:  4"L x 2-3/8"W x 2-1/2" H.  Custom stand. Provenance: Ex-William Schneider collection, acquired before 1980.
