Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya region, ca. 500 CE. A carved quartzite mace head of a hefty form with a circular body bearing a pair of incised rims around the centrally drilled hafting hole. The surfaces bear an incredibly smooth texture that is pleasing to the touch, and remains of original pigment suggest this mace was perhaps created to perform a ceremonial function. Size: 2.25" W x 1.75" H (5.7 cm x 4.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-William and Carol Thibadeau Sr., acquired in the 1970s to 1980s; ex-Tom Francis Collection, Gainesville, Georgia USA, acquired by descent to children
