Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. A charming and sizable ceramic vessel featuring a flared foot, a near-spherical body, and a tall, flared mouth. In relief on the body are lizards, their limbs and tails splayed outward, with stripes painted on their backs. Size: 8.6" W x 11.5" H (21.8 cm x 29.2 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Provenance: private Dere collection, East Coast, USA assembled between 1970 and 2000; ex-private Mazard family collection, France, acquired in the 1970s

  • Condition: Loss from rim and another from the foot. The foot may have been restored, but this is difficult to discern. Otherwise in nice condition with fine remaining pigment and wear commensurate with age as well as nice deposits.
