Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed, ca. 1000 to 1400 CE. A hand-built pottery figure of a woman seated upon ample thighs. She holds both arms to her slightly distended abdomen - perhaps indicative of pregnancy - and has rounded breasts beneath sloped shoulders. Her raised head bears squinting eyes, a perky nose with delineated nostrils, a slit-form mouth, and pierced ears, all beneath a simple cap with a central cylindrical crest. Size: 3.4" W x 5.25" H (8.6 cm x 13.3 cm)
