Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Pacific slope, ca 800 to 1500 CE. A very fine pottery tripod bowl! Shallow bowl painted in shades of red, black and tan with abstract avians and zoomorphs along with geometric patterns. Underside painted in alternating stripes in the same color palette. Feet are hollowed and contain rattles. Best guess is this type of vessel would have been used during ceremonial events or for hungry spouses to announce their desire to eat. Now! 7-7/8" D x 3-3/8" H.
