Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of a deep form that rests upon a trio of abstract jaguar legs. The sienna-colored bowl features a rounded base, wide walls decorated with red, orange, and black stripes, and a thin rim adorned with a commensurately narrow black stripe. The basin interior is rife with intricate polychrome decorations that include intersecting lines encircles with thick rings, abstract fish, and a red and orange glyph surrounded by concentric black rings and a register of pseudo-glyphs. Each hollow, feline-form leg has a tone hole on the verso from which rattles noises can escape. Size: 9.125" W x 3.875" H (23.2 cm x 9.8 cm)
