Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Greater Nicoya or Atlantic Watershed, Period IV, ca. 300 to 500 CE. A sizable pottery vessel of spherical, round-bottomed form with an abstract figure emerging from one side of the body. Protruding amongst the densely painted black and red motifs from one side is the head of a stylized man in a transformed pose bearing zoomorphic arms, legs, and torso. Emanating from the opposite side is a large, disembodied face with insectile antennae and a bulging forehead. Size: 9.125" W x 9.875" H (23.2 cm x 25.1 cm); 11.3" H (28.7 cm) on included custom stand.
