Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste or Nicoya region, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A petite pottery jar of round-bottomed but stable form with a flared rim and a minimalist anthropomorphic face protruding from the front. The beige-ground vessel is decorated in hues of red and black to create a polychrome presentation worthy of admiration. Size: 4.9" L x 4.7" W x 4.125" H (12.4 cm x 11.9 cm x 10.5 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 191. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
