Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Nicoya region, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel of broad form depicting an abstract avian creature supported by 3 hollow feet. The piriform body displays a cream ground atop which red and black pigment create striped wings, abstract geometric motifs beneath the rim, and the facial features of the fowl. Size: 6.5" W x 7.25" H (16.5 cm x 18.4 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and pitting, with light fading to pigment, a few spalls, and scattered areas of roughness, otherwise in great condition. Nice remains of pigment throughout. Previous inventory label beneath base.
