Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste-Nicoya, ca. 200 to 600 CE. Finely carved and string cut from beautiful jade of soft seafoam green hues with black inclusions, an axe god of an abstract human/bird form. The figure's phenotype is mesmerizing with those ovoid eyes and partially drilled pupils and large mouth that together look almost masklike, hands/wings expressively raised up in an orant-like gesture, and straight legs with delineated toes, drilled laterally behind the mouth as well as through the upper end of the conical head/crest for suspension, with a pronounced central ridge on reverse. Just lovely. Size: 1.375" W x 3" H (3.5 cm x 7.6 cm)
