Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste, Nicoya Region, ca. 200 to 600 CE and Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 600-950 CE. This pair represents the two regions, Costa Rica and Mesoamerica, where jade was extensively carved in Precolumbian times. String sawing was a technique that evolved to a remarkable artform in Costa Rican lapidaries. This longitudinally shaped bar pendant of gorgeous green features finely carved striated details and includes multiple holes that were drilled for suspension from the wearer as well as suspension of additional ornaments. The smaller Mayan bead is finely formed and polished and features a lustrous finish to the richly hued variegated stone. 2-1/4"L x 3/8"W x 1/4"D (Costa Rican pendant); 5/8"L x 1/2"W x 1/4"D (Mayan bead)
