Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A stunning celt pendant, expertly hand-carved from a lustrous greenstone showing mottle hues of sage, olive, white, citrine, and cream. Displaying a curved blade and sharpened edge, the ancient pendant features a rectangular body with hands held together at the chest, as the large head rests atop angular shoulders. The abstract visage presents a huge, triangular nose, a pair of coffee bean-shaped eyes with delineated brows, and a straight mouth, all flanked by 2 lengthy ears and crowned by a tiered headdress with 3 spikes at the top. A vertical rib lines the verso, while an annular drill hole on the headdress enables this to be a wearable example of fine Costa Rican artistry! Size: 1.3" W x 3.8" H (3.3 cm x 9.7 cm)
