Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. An interesting axe-god celt pendant, hand-carved from a mottled green stone with light and dark inclusions, with a generally rectangular form and a rounded top. The obverse face depicts an abstract anthropomorphic figure with string-cut features like slit-form eyes, a triangular nose, an ovoid mouth with a drooping, diagonally-incised tongue, and a pair of slender arms reaching upwards towards the tongue. The bottom periphery is acutely-angled - hence the name "axe god" - and a pair of biconically-drilled suspension holes are situated above the head. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 1.375" W x 6.2" H (3.5 cm x 15.7 cm).
