Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya region, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A beautiful anthropomorphic celt pendant hand-carved from an attractive greenstone of sage hues with biconically-drilled through the eyes for suspension. The abstract visage is defined by these openwork eyes, a triangular nose, full lips, a pointed chin, and an intriguingly wrinkled forehead. With meticulously string-cut details and a highly-polished surface, this is a wonderful example of ancient Costa Rican artistry! Size: 2.75" H (7 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-Arte Primitivo, New York, USA, purchased in 2020; ex-William Brill collection
