Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A charming red on black negative resist olla boasting lovely stylized geometric motifs on the dramatically corseted shoulder and lower section - but what makes this vessel most appealing is the amphibian presence on the neck and surrounding the rounded rim - a sweet frog with applied amphibian features (angled legs and webbed feet) and a diminutive head with an almost human expression. Joining this is a sweet and petite greyware zoomorph with wings and tailfeathers, though the head departs from that of an avian creature. Size: 5.125" in diameter x 3.375" H (13 cm x 8.6 cm)
