Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A wonderfully abstract pottery tripod vessel, painted in an earthy red and a bright, chalky white. The vessel itself is simple, with a flanged shoulder and slightly flared rim. The legs are in the form of fantastical animals. Viewed from the side, they appear to be great crested birds with small insects or reptiles on their long beaks. Size: 4.85" W x 4.95" H (12.3 cm x 12.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Dr. G. Hermann collection, Denver, CO acquired before 1980
