Description:

Ancient Greece, Corinth, ca. 7th to 6th century BCE. A well preserved wheel-thrown pottery aryballos of a near-miniature form with a delightfully spherical body, a round but stable base, a squat neck, a discoid rim with an overhanging lip, and a strap handle joining rim to shoulder. The cream-hued exterior provides an elegant ground atop which black figural and decorative motifs (also with attractive red hues due to misfiring) are presented. Most notable is the repeated motif of a hoplite, shield raised, standing ready for battle, framed by bands above and below, adorning the vessel body. In addition, the neck is encircled with a radiating band of tongues and the rim with concentric circles. A wonderful example of Corinthian pottery. Size: 2.25" W x 2" H (5.7 cm x 5.1 cm); 2.875" H (7.3 cm) on included custom stand.
