Description:

Ancient Greece, Corinth, ca. first half of the 6th century BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown aryballos with a rounded base, a piriform body, a narrow neck leading to a discoid rim, and a perforated suspension hole. The tan body is decorated in black-figure technique with a pair of feline figures, perhaps lionesses or panthers, confronting one another on either side of a petite duck. Their powerful bodies are surrounded by several abstract flowers, with a ring of petals adorning the base, neck, and rim. The black-glazed details exhibit some faded areas of red pigment, giving this vessel a wonderful presentation. Size: 1.75" W x 3.2" H (4.4 cm x 8.1 cm).
