Gary Kuehn (American, b. 1939), Gesture Project lithograph, 1970. A Gary Kuehn Post-Minimalist abstract lithograph, foundational to his Gesture Project, numbered 67 of 250 in pencil on the upper left, signed and dated by the artist in pencil on the upper right. In the 1960s, Kuehn became a leading light in the Process Art and Post-Minimalist movements with groundbreaking exhibitions including "Eccentric Abstraction" curated by Lucy Lippard in 1966 and "When Attitudes Become Form" curated by Harold Szeeman in 1969. His works have been collected by the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Hamburger Behnhof, the Museum fur Moderne Kunst Frankfurt, and more. Most recently Kuehn's artwork has been exhibited at the Fondazione Prada, Venice; the Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; Yvone Lambert Gallery, Paris; the Kunstmusuem St. Gallen, and the Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum of Art, Hartford. In 2013 scholar Hatje Cantz published the first comprehensive text about Kuehn's work, entitled “Gary Kuehn: Five Decades,” and in 2014 the Kunstmusuem Liechtenstein mounted a Kuehn retrospective exhibition entitled, “Between Sex and Geometry.” An avid educator as well, Mr. Kuehn received his MFA from Rutgers University in1964 where he went on to join the faculty as a professor in the Fine Arts department.
