Pre-Columbian, Colombia to Ecuador (Carchi) region, Narino Highlands, Narino culture, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery figure seated atop a stable base with hands held to bent knees. Highly burnished and covered in red-orange slip, the figure peers out with protruding eyes and has a triangular nose, parted lips, and cupped ears, all beneath a minimalist coiffure bearing a narrow perforation. Size: 2.125" W x 4.25" H (5.4 cm x 10.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
