Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Sinu, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A finely crafted 15K+ gold (71% gold) elongated crescent-shaped nose ring or earring cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process. The ornament presents an attractive design comprised of intricate filigreed woven motifs and striated bands. A gold fringe runs along the top and is interrupted at the center by a suspension ring. A lovely example from the Sinu peoples who inhabited the hills and valleys of the middle Cauca River during the centuries prior to Spanish conquest of the 1530s. Size: 3.9" L x 0.75" W (9.9 cm x 1.9 cm); quality of gold: 71% (equivalent to 15K+); total weight: 3.4 grams.
