Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 200 BCE to 400 CE. A fascinating piece of jewelry with ancient beads made from shell, stone, and pottery figures. The necklace has four strands strung with hundreds of red and black seed-shaped stone and shell beads. Dispersed along the strands are whole white shells. The strands terminate with two hand-formed pottery figures, of stylized forms, with hand-drilled perforations though the tops of their conical heads. A long barrel-shaped stone bead is threaded with the strands to create tassels of uneven lengths. Professionally mounted within a case. Size (case): 19" L x 13" W x 2.25" H (48.3 cm x 33 cm x 5.7 cm); (necklace): 35" L (88.9 cm)
