Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Hand-carved from a spondylus shell, this is a beautiful pendant with a rich pale orange, pink, and beige color scheme, in the form of an animal, probably a coatimundi. The creature has its paws wrapped around its snout. Its body is pierced under the chin to create an amulet. These playful animals may have been pets in ancient Mesoamerica. Size: 2.9" W x 1" H (7.4 cm x 2.5 cm); 2" H (5.1 cm) on included custom stand.
