Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A superb hand-built redware human effigy vessel depicting a male figure sitting with elbows resting on upraised knees, his right hand lifted up with an opening as if to receive an object, nude with delineated genitalia. His head forms the upper section of the piece, presenting a tranquil visage as if in a trancelike state with coffee-bean shaped eyes and mouth, a pronounced overhanging browline that leads to a straight, aquiline nose, and round cup-shaped ears. His coiffure and/or helmet flares to create a wide-rimmed mouth. A lovely piece from this shaft tomb culture. Size: 7.375" L x 5.875" W x 9.375" H (18.7 cm x 14.9 cm x 23.8 cm)

Provenance: private Illinois USA collection; a thermoluminescence report that confirms its age to 2000 years old +/- 25% will accompany this piece
