Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery figure of highly stylized form who sits atop conical legs as well as a conical base emanating from his gluteal region. The figure hunches slightly forward while holding one arm up to a petite mouth, and the expressive visage is surmounted by a hemispherical helmet with a central indentation representing the phallic head; this was perhaps used as a fertility effigy. Size: 7" L x 5.75" W x 8.8" H (17.8 cm x 14.6 cm x 22.4 cm)

Provenance: private Charlotte, North Carolina, USA collection; ex-Clark Cierlak Fine Arts, Sherman Oaks, California, USA; ex-Malter Galleries, Encino, California, USA
