Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and stone-burnished pottery jar exhibiting a low, wide profile and a dark red hue. A quartet of stippled medallions - perhaps flowers of cacti - surround the exterior periphery of the shoulder and perhaps doubled as thumb rests for when the vessel was being handled. Size: 11.62" Diameter x 5.8" H (29.5 cm x 14.7 cm)

  • Condition: Stabilization to 1 lengthy fissure across shoulder, with small chips and very light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and scattered earthen deposits, with light fading and darkening to pigment in scattered areas, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to overall form.
